Available files for milling

I have recently started playing with a CNC milling machine. It is a SainSmart 3018 PRO. It is an entry level device but it is a lot of fun.

In enjoying this new hobby, I have used a lot of information and data from the internet. I would like to contribute a little of what I have done, in return.

Software

In all projects I use Candle as a means to visualize the pieces to be milled and to drive the router. Gimp as been used in many projects to design the pieces to be milled and in these circumstances I used my own program, "sculpt" to build the gcode file from the PNG file. Some documentation if "sculpt" is available here.

In other projects I used "qcal" as a design tool and "dxf2gcode" to translate the dxf file to gcode.

The projects

PI-HUT first versionPI-HUT-1 GIMP image

  • This design is a case for a Raspberry PI model 2B and 3B. It is built from 3.175mm (1/8 inch) sanded plywood that I bought in a hobby store.
  • It utilizes 8 layers cut from this same material. I don't see why other materials could not be used such as plastic.
  • I used a 2mm, flat head, double fluted, up-cut bit to do all the cutting.
  • This case being built of wood is not fire proof or file retardant (like many others available for purchase on the internet). I suggest that it be used in controlled and supervised environments.
  • Todo: try to solidify the corners near the Ethernet port and USB ports.
  • File: PI-HUT-1 layered gimp file
  • Note 1:The file contains layers, each layer is a cutout but for one that is a pocket.
  • Note 2: The walls are thin enough to easily see the light of the LEDs.

Rasperry PI  case: PI-HUT-2PI-HUT second version

  • The design does not involve any pocketing techniques. It utilizes 6 layers cut from this same material. I don't see why other materials could not be used such as plastic.
